The University Music Ensemble (“Gruppo strumentale di Ateneo”) was formed in the 1996-1997 academic year thanks to the efforts of Professor Ing. Francesco M. Iaconis with the aim of spreading knowledge and appreciation for music among university students in an active way.
To reach this goal the University Music Ensemble has set forth a series of initiatives to foster musical education through “concert lessons” during which the fundamentals of music are taught, lessons for various instruments are also provided in order to form a music society made up of university students. In light of this objective, a series of Wednesday-night concerts were held at the Faculty of Engineering during which 69 chamber music concerts were performed. At the same time, the orchestral section of the music company, debuting in 1997, has performed 66 concerts, both within the university setting, and for other associations and cultural events, receiving excellent critical reviews. The orchestral component is made up of university students and professional artists who volunteer their talent in light of the cultural importance of the effort made by our music ensemble whose repertoire ranges from classical-romantic (Mozart, Brahms, Lehár, etc.) to ragtime and “evergreen” (Mancini, Ellington, Porter, Gershwin and Piazzolla).
The University Music Ensemble is directed by Maestro Angelo Bruzzese.
