University spin-off firms are set up by researchers with the aim of conferring commercial value to the know-how and scientific-technological competence developed while carrying out intensive research activity. Spin-offs usually work on patents that are property of the University and the firm is made up of researchers, the University and one or more external institutions or businesses, making it an independent legal entity.
